Dr. John C. Williams

A proud Sacramento native and Encina High School graduate, Dr. John C. Williams is one of the nation’s most influential economists. Since 2018, he has served as President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he plays a key role in shaping national monetary policy as Vice Chair of the Federal Open Market Committee.
Previously, Dr. Williams was President of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and began his career at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. A respected scholar and leader, his research on monetary policy, productivity, and innovation has been widely published in top economic journals.
Dr. Williams earned his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and an A.B. from UC Berkeley. He credits his public education as foundational to his success, calling education "the most fundamental tool in achieving prosperity."
