Sherry Skelly griffith

Sherry Skelly Griffith brings 40 years of experience working with and on behalf of children and youth. Sherry began her career as a preschool teacher and director of before and after-school programs. Her passion for ensuring a quality public education for every child brought her to the California Legislature working for a member of the Assembly Education Committee. She served former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin as the Director of the California Curriculum Commission overseeing the implementation of grade-level content standards in every subject taught in CA schools through the adoption of curriculum frameworks and K-12 textbooks.

After leaving the California Department of Education, Sherry spent 13 years representing school district and county superintendents, principals and other school administrators at the State and Federal levels of government, at the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA).

She recently retired as the Executive Director of the CA State Parent Teacher Association (PTA) after seven years. Sherry has worked extensively with foster youth as a board member for the Foster Youth Education Fund and was appointed by the San Unified Board of Directors to serve on the Curriculum, Standards, Instructional & Student Services Committee for six years.  

Sherry and her husband Joel live in Carmichael and all three of their children attended and graduated from San Juan Unified schools.
