STEAM

Supporting STEAM education in the district is a priority for the San Juan Education Foundation in the 2019-2020 academic year.

The Foundation was fortunate to secure a generous grant from Intel to fund a STEAM Fair and bring ReCreate with their Maker Space resources and teacher curriculum to Citrus Heights schools in partnership with the district’s Family Engagement and Partnership Development and Elementary/K-8.

ReCreate delivers hands-on, project-based-learning in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Technology is integrated with reuse materials to provide high impact maker education. The program is taught by trained facilitators to introduce a concept, teach the skills, and provide a jumping off point for further exploration. By “making” with their own hands, students take learning risks and stretch their creative mindset, spark their desire to push their own potential, and build pride in themselves.

Thanks to Intel, ReCreate, SMUD, iFly, UC Davis, Sierra Nevada Journeys and others for their support and partnership in organizing a family night STEAM fair scheduled for October 3, 2019 at Lichen Elementary for Citrus Heights schools. In addition, Genius Lab “Maker Days” led by ReCreate will take place during the school year.
