Grant Programs

San Juan Education Foundation is pleased to offer several grant programs to benefit the teachers, students and community of the San Juan Unified School District. Currently, the Foundation offers the following grants, which are described in more detail below: (1) Project Grants, (2) STAR Grants, and (3) Learning Experience Grants. Project Grant

The Project Grant is available to teachers/school site staff looking to design their own project on a one-time basis designed to enrich their students’ learning. Examples of such projects might include (but are not limited to): online resources like subscriptions, teaching tools or aids, virtual or in-person class field trips, or other needs related to learning resources.

Project Grants are accepted three times during the school year. This year’s Project Grant deadlines are: September 15, December 15, and February 16, 2024. Applicants will be notified within 45-days of the deadline about the status of their application. Projects that are funded should be completed within 90 days of the award. Project Grants are currently funded up to $500.

STAR Grant

The STAR Grant is available for programs that focus on Science, Technology, Arts or Reading (or any combination thereof) and relate to the state’s academic content standards. The grant may request seed funding or support for an existing program. Proposals for equipment must clearly demonstrate the relationship of the equipment to the proposed student-related program.

STAR Grants are accepted two times during the school year. This year’s STAR Grant deadlines are: October 13, 2023 and February 16, 2024. Applicants will be notified within 45-days of the deadline about the status of their application. Projects that are funded should be completed within 90 days of the award. STAR Grants are currently funded up to $1,500.

Learning Experience Grant

The Learning Experience Grant is meant to encourage student development and build community through a shared learning experience, particularly at the entire grade level or entire school site. As the purpose of the grant is meant to create a community-minded shared learning experience, applicants are highly encouraged to submit an application jointly with their school administrators. Grant applications focusing on equity and inclusion are highly recommended.

This year’s Learning Experience Grant deadline is December 15, 2023. Applicants will be notified within 45-days of the deadline about the status of their application. Projects that are funded should be completed within 180 days of the award. Learning Experience Grants are currently funded up to $5,000.

On behalf of the El Camino High School Music Program and all of our students, we thank the San Juan Education Foundation for their continued support.

The funding for various types of grants varies each year depending on the Foundation’s budget. All teachers and administrative personnel in the San Juan Unified School District are eligible and encouraged to apply.

Grant Reporting

Project, STAR, and Learning Experience Grant recipients are required to submit photos and/or videos documenting the project’s outcomes.

Individuals or groups who do not submit the documentation will be ineligible for future grants.

* Please note that any subscriptions or equipment purchased through the various grant programs listed above become the property of SJUSD and not the individual teacher awardee(s).
